DOROTHY AND JAMES ENGAGE BUSINESS
Dorothy and James solidify partnership with Awaka Uganda.
Dorothy and James were excited to solidify a working relationship with Eve Zalwango, the owner of handcraft producer Awaka Uganda. After negotiating and speaking to her about her needs and the challenges unique to Northern Uganda, we determined that we would start and invest in a supply chain business to employ those who have graduated from ChildVoice’s care program (see April 2014 entry for more information about ChildVoice). The Market Project will employ women to treat hardwood. It will then be sold to Awaka where it would be turned into beautiful pieces of furniture and unique handcrafted home items. Furthermore, Eve will teach design and construction classes to the employees so that they might one day be able to employ themselves and lead to further economic stability.
